Grading

You will be graded on:

Content

Make sure your speech is according to topic, do not change topics.

Your speech needs a beginning, middle, and end. Structure your speech well so that it will be easy for your audience to follow you and your train of thought.

Eye contact

Make sure to make eye contact with your audience. This shows confidence and makes the audience feel that you are actually talking to them and they will want to listen to you.

DO NOT read your notes.

If you forget something you can quickly look down at your notes and then look back up at your audience and continue your presentation.

DO NOT look down at your notes too often, looking down for every sentence or every 2nd sentence is considered reading!

Remember your presentation

You need to practice! Practice your speech out loud at home. This helps you to remember the content of your speech and helps with confidence.

Time

Make sure to time yourself at home to make sure that you are within the time limit. Too short is not good, too long is also not good.

Voice

Speak in a loud and clear voice.

Do not speak too soft, your audience needs to hear what you are saying.

Other

Practice pausing before and after important points.

Don’t just stand/sit behind the table: use gestures and be animated.

Smile, be enthusiastic, and have fun.
